Lomond Rock AFC 3
Stephen Houston (1)
Mark Beaumont (2)
Port Glasgow OBU 4

Due to a fixture clash Rock had to move their home fixture to Argyll Park on Wed night needing a win v Prem2 side Port Glasgow OBU to top the Centenary Cup section and to progress to the next round.

Due to work commitements Rock had no recognized strikers starting the game and were forced into a 4-5-1 formation with midfielder Smallwood leading the attack. However this didnt seem to affect the rock and they were quick out the traps and pinned OBU back in their own half early on. Rock were dominated the first half despite OBU taking the lead against the run of play on 12mins with a fine strike from 30yards after a slack pass by the home defence. Rock equalized soon after when big centre half Houston continued his fine form with a header at the back post from a superb Marsland delivery. Rock took the lead on 21mins when again a great delivery by Marsland found Hainey at the back post and he headed across goal for Beamount to force the ball home. Rock were calling all the shots and only the OBU keeper kept the score down with two saves.

HT Rock 2-1 OBU

Rock management told the players not to lose their concentration and keep their shape. OBU started the 2nd half better than the first and had a couple of attacks that were cleared. Rock looked a touch flatter 2nd period but almost scored a 3rd when Beaumont was in on goal but the defender made an excellent last ditch tackle. Rock did score that 3rd goal on 57mins when Beaumont headed his 2nd goal from a Marsland corner to put Rock 3-1 up. The game looked over at this stage and OBU looked beat, but all credit to them they dug in and made a few changes and it paid off. They signalled their intent on 62mins when only a superb stop from Rock keeper Reilly stopped them getting back into the game when he touched a free kick high around his left hand post. Quinn then made way for King as fatigue kicked in. Then in a crazy 10min spell Rock switched off and OBU scored 3 times, with twice the ball coming in from the left and forced home and then no 12 getting space and time in the box to fire home. Rock threw on Marment and Colgan to try and pull themselves back into the game.

Rock looked beat and OBU looked the fitter side and it never looked likely that Rock would score the required two goals to win the section. However a good performance from the boys, dominated the game for 65mins and looked as if they'd go on and win with ease but learned a tough lesson in concentration and found out their mistakes will get punished against the better teams.

Rock 3-4 Port Glasgow OBU
